Challengers

EDIT: If you've happened upon this Deviation now, just know that the designs above and profiles below are very out of date. So don't pay too much attention to them unless you're here to get an idea of my progress/improvement.

You know how I usually say that my drawings take forever? I take that all back. I worked on this off and on for a month, and I'm so glad I finally finished it. I made this as sort of a reference for my characters, which I didn't have many pictures of before this (except for Thorn). So this should make art trades and such easier.

These are the Challengers, the main characters from the comic I've been working on called... The Challengers. I created them about 2 years ago, and they've developed quite a bit since then. Basically, they're an aspiring group of crime fighters with superhuman abilities, trying to prove themsleves as heroes, and protect the world from evil. You know, typical superhero stuff. ...Yeah, I can't find much to say about them other than that for now. The actual comic should be finished pretty soon, you'll see more of them then.

Here's some descriptions of the individual characters, along with some notes and advice for drawing them. I'm not really telling their backstories or how they got their powers or anything yet, I'd rather have them revealed in the comic itself, plus, it'd be hard to say much without spoiling the story for some of them.

Warpster
Real Name: Adam Webster
Age: 15
Height: 5' 7"
Weight: 140 lbs
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Blue
Powers: Ability to alter kinetic energy and propel himself in any direction. By doing this, he can fly at superhuman speeds. He can also use this ability in short bursts, allowing him to travel so fast that he appears to teleport.
Skills: Warpster is a 4th dan black belt in Taekwondo.
Personality: Laid-back and always calm and collected, but still fun-loving. Very free-spirited.
Tips:
-Warpster is of Korean and English decent.
-Warpster wears a long scarf that blows behind him as he hovers/flies.
-Warpster wears martial arts tape around his left arm and right leg.

Surge
Real Name: Unknown
Age: 17
Height: 5' 10"
Weight: 170 lbs
Hair Color: Black (dyed blonde)
Eye Color: Brown
Powers: Ability to absorb electromagnetic charge from subatomic particles and release it through his body in the form of plasma or electric bolts.
Skills: Surge possesses a fair amount of thieving skills such as picking locks, and is highly skilled in Freerunning and Parkour.
Personality: Has a cynical, passive, jaded attitude, but but also down to earth and loyal.
Tips:
-Surge is of Hispanic decent.
-Surge has a lot of metal on his clothes to help conduct his electricity, such as the zippers on his leather jacket, a wallet chain (behind him on his right side in this picture), buckle and rings on his belt, dog tags, steel-toed boots, and metal plates on his fingerless gloves.
-Surge carries a pocketknife in his… pocket.
-Surge dyes his hair blonde, but purposely lets his black roots show.
-Surge's hair is kind of a cross between slicked back and spiked. Also, those aren't bangs, his hairline is just all zig-zaggy.

Thorn
Real Name: Jeremy Thornton
Age: 16
Height: 6‘6"
Weight: 270 lbs
Hair Color: Dirty Blonde
Eye Color: Hazel
Powers: Has the physical traits of a humanoid dragon, and usually uses his claws, teeth, etc., to fight.
Personality: Quiet, introverted, and a bit timid. Despite appearances, Thorn is usually the softest of the group.
Tips:
-Thorn is covered in smooth, snake-like green scales (I usually don’t draw them for the sake of simplicity)
-Thorn’s scales are a slightly lighter color on the front of his torso, front of his neck, underside of his tail, and insides of his thighs.
-Thorn is muscular, but lean, so don’t draw him like he’s on steroids. Think Spider-Man physique.
-Thorn’s pupils are slitted.
-Don’t forget the 3 dark spots on his cheeks.
-The claws on Thorn’s hands are non-retractable.
-Thorn’s tail fits through a simple hole in his pants.
-Thorn has sharp teeth and fangs, although the tips are slightly rounded. They're sharp enough to puncture things when force is applied, but not sharp enough to cut or scratch anything that rubs on them, such as Thorn's tongue.
-Thorn's pants are supposed to be loose and thin, I just didn't draw them very well in this picture. >.>
-Thorn’s tongue is pointed, and is about 1 foot long when fully extended.
-Thorn’s wings (at the moment at least) are only large enough to soften falls, and with difficulty, let him glide short distances.

Jewel
Real Name: Julia Wolfe
Age: 15
Height: 5’5”
Weight: 120 lbs
Hair Color: Pale Blonde
Eye Color: Light Blue
Powers: Ability to manipulate crystallized molecules, which allows her to control crystals that she pulls from the ground, or control ice and snow.
Personality: Very tranquil, friendly, and nurturing, but still courageous and independent.
Tips:
-Jewel wears several pieces of jewelry, such as snowflake-shaped earrings, a beaded crystal necklace, and a crystal-studded belt.
-Jewel wears a blue t-shirt under her jacket.
-Jewel's hair is about mid-back length.

Hacker
Real Name: Hector Wilson
Age: 13
Height: 5’0”
Weight: 110 lbs
Hair Color: Burgundy
Eye Color: Green
Powers: Genius level intellect. Uses machines and gadgets he’s created to fight.
Skills: Skilled in engineering, programming, welding, etc. All the skills needed to build his gadgets.
Personality: Very outgoing and witty. Provides most of the comic-relief in group.
Tips:
-Wears metal goggles.
-Usually wears a lot of gadgets like metal gauntlets and a utility belt, but I decided to draw him without them.
-Hacker’s t-shirt has rubber pads on his shoulders.

Trace
Real Name: Tracy Wolfe
Age: 16 (in human years)
Height: 2’9” (at shoulder)
Weight: 90 lbs
Hair Color: Silver and White
Eye Color: Blue
Powers: Psychic abilities that allow Trace to speak telepathically and read minds. Trace also has the ability to clairvoyantly see visions of the recent past, although he has limited control of it. He can also use his abilities to"track" people that he has strong mental bonds with.
Personality: Pacifistic and submissive, but very protective and dutiful when needed. Often the most mature and wise of the group.
Tips:
-Trace has silver and white fur, I just didn’t draw the silver parts very shiny.
-Trace's eyes, and the blue markings on his face and torso glow whenever he uses his clairvoyant powers.
-Yes, he has bangs.
-Trace wears a collar bearing the Challengers insignia.
